Frequently Asked Questions

Does cropping remove content from the PDF?
PDF cropping sets the CropBox — it hides content outside the crop area but does not permanently delete it from the file. The hidden content can be recovered by resetting the crop box. This is standard PDF behaviour.
What units can I use for crop margins?
You can switch between millimetres (mm), PDF points (pt), and pixels (px) using the unit toggle. The tool converts your input to PDF points internally before applying.
Can I crop different pages by different amounts?
Currently the tool applies a single set of crop margins to the page selection you choose (all, odd, even, or custom range). For per-page cropping you would repeat the process.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. All cropping is performed in your browser using the open-source pdf-lib library. Your file never leaves your device.
Why does the file size barely change after cropping?
Because PDF cropping only adjusts the CropBox metadata — it does not remove image data or content streams. The actual content is still there, just hidden. To truly reduce file size, use our Compress PDF tool after cropping.
