Frequently Asked Questions

How does Smart Table extraction work?
Each text item in a PDF has exact X and Y coordinates. Smart Table mode groups items at similar Y positions into rows, then maps items at similar X positions to columns — recreating the table structure from spatial data.
Why do some PDFs extract poorly?
Scanned PDFs (images with no actual text layer) cannot be extracted — the text must be real PDF text. Complex multi-column layouts or merged cells may also reduce accuracy. For scanned documents, try an OCR tool first.
Is my file uploaded to any server?
No. All extraction happens in your browser using PDF.js. Your file never leaves your device. 100% private.
What is the difference between XLSX and CSV?
XLSX is the Excel format — it supports multiple sheets, formatting, and opens natively in Excel. CSV is plain text, comma-separated — universally compatible with every tool but limited to one sheet.

PDF to Excel Converter — Complete Guide

Extracting tables and numerical data from PDF files into Excel spreadsheets is a common need for accountants, analysts, and researchers. Our tool identifies tabular structures in your PDF and converts them into editable Excel-compatible format.

💡 Works best with text PDFs

PDFs created digitally (not scanned) give the most accurate table extraction results since the text data is embedded directly.

💡 Clean up after conversion

Always review the converted spreadsheet. Some merged cells or complex table headers may need manual adjustment.

💡 Use for invoices and reports

Financial statements, invoices, and data reports convert especially well since they have regular, structured table layouts.

💡 Scanned PDFs need OCR

If your PDF is a scan, use our OCR Image to Text tool first to make the content machine-readable before converting.

PDF to Excel conversion parses the text content, coordinate positions, and structure of your PDF to identify rows and columns. Our tool attempts to reconstruct the logical table structure as accurately as possible. For complex multi-page tables or PDFs with irregular formatting, some post-conversion cleanup in Excel may be needed. The output file is saved in .xlsx format, compatible with Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, LibreOffice Calc, and all major spreadsheet applications.
