Frequently Asked Questions

What is AVIF and why convert it to JPG?
AVIF (AV1 Image File Format) is a cutting-edge format that offers significantly better compression than JPEG and WebP. However, many older apps, websites, and devices don't support AVIF yet. Converting to JPG ensures your images work everywhere.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. All conversion happens entirely in your browser using the HTML5 Canvas API. Your files never leave your device and nothing is transmitted to any server.
Why do I need to set a background color?
AVIF supports transparency (alpha channel), but JPG does not. When converting, any transparent areas must be filled with a solid color. White is the default, but you can choose any color that suits your use case.
What quality setting should I use?
For general use, 85–90% provides excellent visual quality with a reasonable file size. For maximum quality, use 95–100%. For web thumbnails, 70–80% is a solid choice.
Which browsers support AVIF conversion?
AVIF decoding is supported in Chrome 85+, Firefox 93+, Safari 16.4+, and Edge 121+. If your browser shows a compatibility warning at the top, please update your browser or use Chrome for best results.
How many AVIF files can I convert at once?
There's no enforced limit. You can convert as many files as your device memory supports. For best performance, we recommend batches of up to 100 files.
