Why Flatten Your PDF?

Flattening makes documents secure, consistent and universally compatible.

🔒

Tamper-Proof

Once flattened, form fields and annotations become static content that cannot be edited, checked or unchecked by recipients.

🖨️

Print-Ready

Eliminates rendering differences between PDF viewers. What you see is exactly what prints — no missing fields, no blank boxes.

📧

Archive-Safe

Flattened PDFs are ideal for long-term archiving, email sharing and attaching to other documents without losing content.

🔬

Deep Analysis

Automatically detects form fields, annotations, signatures and encryption before flattening so you know exactly what's being processed.

How It Works

Three Simple Steps

1

Upload PDF

Drag and drop your PDF. The tool automatically detects form fields, annotations and signatures.

2

Choose Options

Select which elements to flatten — forms, annotations, signatures, or all of them at once.

3

Download

Click Flatten PDF and download a clean, static, print-ready document in seconds.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does flattening a PDF actually do?
Flattening merges interactive elements — like form fields, annotations and signatures — permanently into the page content. The result is a static PDF where nothing can be changed, moved or interacted with. It looks identical but is no longer editable.
Will flattening break digital signatures?
Yes — flattening removes the cryptographic signature data while keeping the visual appearance of the signature on the page. If you need to verify digital signatures later, keep a copy of the original before flattening.
Can I flatten just form fields but keep annotations?
Yes — uncheck the Annotations option and only the form fields will be flattened. Each element type (forms, annotations, signatures, links) can be toggled independently.
Is the flattened PDF smaller in size?
Usually yes, especially for heavily annotated or form-heavy PDFs, because the form data structures are removed. Enable the "Optimize output size" option for additional compression of streams.
Is my PDF sent to a server?
No. All processing happens entirely in your browser using PDF-lib. Your document never leaves your device.
